Have you ever wanted to achieve something extraordinary, but then as you went to write it down as a goal you talked yourself out of it?
That little voice that tells you that you probably won’t achieve it so why waste your time, why get disappointed, why get embarrassed if you tell others and don’t get the results. You’ll just feel like a failure. Be realistic you tell yourself. Know your limitations. Who do you think you are anyway!
That voice was loud and clear in my head! If you have read about my humble beginnings, you may be aware that throughout my childhood and even into my 40’s I was striving to be ‘normal’ and ‘fit in’ with others who I perceived as being more worthy than me. I thought I knew who I was… an Essex girl from a poor family with an eccentric pessimistic father and a disabled mother.
The truth is I failed at being normal or average. I found when I got into the workforce that I thrived on challenges! Two years in one position was enough for me, before I was ready for the next career change or promotion. The staff generally believed that there was a glass ceiling in our organisation, but I decided not to listen to staff gossip, but instead, I listened to my HR Manager and mentor who believed in me and guided me. All I had to do then was simply work hard, study, overcome challenges and work on my own self development, so that I would be prepared for opportunities as they came up.
Twenty years with the one organisation was a continual process of learning and growing as I worked my way up from casual loans typist to the first female executive manager. But the next step was out the door…
I found that corporate life at the level was becoming all consuming and I decided I wanted to have more time to enjoy a good coffee and work less. That’s when we started investing in property. Again, I could have listened to those who told me that 2 negatively geared properties was normal. I didn’t listen to them either. John (my partner) and I decided that we probably needed about 10 positively geared properties to fund later retirement. We need to know more and be more… so we invested in our own self development, property and business education which led us purchasing 74 rental properties in less than 6 years!
So we both left the workforce about 15 years ago and haven’t looked back! We’ve travelled overseas extensively and now we’re travelling Australia and loving our lifestyle.
Now I know WHO I am – I am Rachel ‘Lucky’ Barnes! Everything always works out for me and I know that everything I think about I bring about.
Now I know WHAT service I’m here to provide – Make a positive impact on everyone I meet. It could be a small thing such as a smile to brighten someone’s day, perhaps a hug, an authentic compliment or ‘thank you’ for a service they provide so they feel appreciated.
It could be a big thing – to seriously help others who are enthusiastic and ambitious to believe more and achieve more, and have FUN in the process.
But this isn’t about me … it’s actually about YOU. Are you really quite ambitious but perhaps suppressing it?
When you read my story, and that of others who are feeling free and fulfilled, it helps YOU to believe that if we can do it, so can you.
In fact, what fulfills me even more than my current lifestyle, is knowing that I can positively impact the life of others. .. sometimes with intent through coaching, and sometimes just by inspiring others through my life and actions.
